Crazy Cleaner!

Alright… you know what time of year it is… Spring Cleaning time! Yes, I’m actually excited about this. It’s the time of the year that I find I’m the most organized and I get the most accomplished.  Okay, I’m also the daughter of a clean freak {love you mom!}, and I’ve been spring cleaning since I was able to carry a rag.  So, let’s get our scrapbook room ready for a whole new year of scrappin’! J

Whether you have a room, a space within a room or a corner cabinet, it’s always so great to sit and start creating. To do this you need to be somewhat tidy {let’s face it, we’re creative people, it’s not always going to be neat & tidy} and have your supplies at hand. One of the first things to organize, and one that I’m working on right now, are your photos.  You might all be storing your photos online now and that’s fabulous, but you know that you have some photos stored away or hidden that hold precious memories of their own.  Photos are, in my opinion, the most important part of scrapbooking.  So, dig them out, organize them and reminisce.

Ø       Get your photos out of the old Static Cling or Adhesive type albums. These albums will actually discolour your photos and destroy some very precious memories.  {I’m having a difficult time removing my photos and these albums are only a few years old!}

Ø       Invest in some form of Photo Organization System. Whether it’s the pockets albums {so that you can still share you photos with family}, photo boxes {for easy storage}, or pocket folders {for easy organization}, buy them and start using them. Either one of these systems will keep your photos safe, not to mention organized for you, when you’re ready to scrapbook them. You’ll thank yourself later!

Ø       Decide on your method of organization. Are you sorting by events, dates, people, places? Decide and then stick to it.  The time and effort you put into your organization now will pay off later when you want to just sit and scrapbook. You’ll have a place to start!

Ø       Take some time to Reminisce. Get out your sticky notes and start going over your photos. Jot down all the little details that make these photos important. Dates, places, names, relationships, and those funny little stories will make your journalling so much better {not to mention easier} later on!

             Online photo storage is great, especially if you’re like me. I love to take a lot of photos {I am a scrapbooker… I’ve got to get those detail shots!}.  To keep these photos organized I:

Ø       Create a new file for new photos right away.

Ø       Use dates as file names until I modify or use the photo for scrapbooking.

Ø       Create a CD of Photos on a particular subject.

             I hope you all have a great time spring-cleaning… from your local crazy cleaner! J

Happy Scrappin’
